Ramaiah Sports Center, Bengaluru
Sustainability Embraced through RRR Construction (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)
Situated close to the scattered campuses of the Ramaiah Institute in Bangalore, NDDC proposes a multi-level sports complex aimed at maximizing the site’s potential while providing a diverse range of sporting facilities within a single, cohesive block. The building is strategically designed with a gentle sloped landscape on the road-sides that limits direct access from the road as well as contributing to an inviting atmosphere. Hence, drawing the attention of passersby and encouraging engagement with the facility.

Facade Design
The facade of the sports complex is distinguished by a folded metal screen design. This architectural feature incorporates repetitive angular folds and pleats, resulting in a striking three-dimensional surface that harmonizes structural functionality with aesthetic appeal. The perforations in the metal screen facilitate natural light filtration, allowing for effective ventilation and shading within the building.
Additionally, the folded geometry of the façade contributes to a dynamic visual experience, creating shifting shadows and textures that change with the light throughout the day. This not only enhances the overall beauty of the structure but also plays a vital role in regulating the air flow and maintaining the internal environmental conditions of the complex.

Interior Layout
The interior of the Sports Centre is thoughtfully organized across multiple levels to accommodate various sports facilities and support services as per their functional requirements.
Lower Ground Floor: The basement is a hub of activity, featuring table tennis and badminton courts, a swimming pool with a striking double-height ceiling, shooting ranges, and a running track. This level is designed to promote intense training and competitive events, ensuring an energetic atmosphere.
Upper Ground Floor: The ground floor serves as the entrance to the sports facility, incorporating a dormitory for athletes and guests. This entry level is designed to be welcoming and accessible, ensuring a smooth flow of movement into the complex.
First Floor: Ascending to the first floor, visitors will find a vibrant mix of facilities including a café, cricket pitch, kabaddi court, volleyball courts, squash courts, a gym, a dormitory, and an administrative block. This level is designed to foster a community spirit among athletes, providing spaces for both training and social interaction.
Second Floor: The second floor houses additional gym facilities and administrative offices, ensuring that all necessary support services are conveniently located within the complex.
Terrace Level: Atop the building, the terrace features an expansive football field and few tennis courts, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape while providing a unique outdoor sporting experience.
The circular staircase connects all levels of the sports complex, facilitating easy access throughout the facility. This acts as a prominent feature that not only serves as a functional means of movement but also acts as a striking visual focal point. The complex promotes accessibility for all users, including those with mobility challenges, while its open design encourages interaction and engagement among athletes, spectators, and visitors alike.
